Mineral make up is generally defined as make up made from minerals. A colourless base is created using various ingredients, then you add iron oxides and micas to create a colour.

How do you make it?

You're going to find a ton of various ingredients, all of which seem awesome and essential and wonderful.

So how do you figure out what you need, what you don't need, and what you can substitute for something else?

Learn some basic differences in the types of products you might want to make and how they differ. We will use several terms to describe the different powders and formulas.

For mineral make-up, you want coverage -- this is usually defined as light, medium, or full coverage. This means how well it covers up your own skin colour. For eye shadows, coverage is a good thing because you want your colours to pop!

The opposite of coverage is translucency. You may want to include ingredients that aren't apparent once they are on your face. These ingredients are used for things like mineral veils or glitter powders (you don't want something white on your skin, just glittery) or sheer eye shadows and blushes.

Finally, you want slip. Slip is how well the product goes on your skin, how well it "slips" and doesn't drag. So we include ingredients that make application nice and smooth.

  • Black eyes shadows - When making mineral make-up eye shadows, black is your friend. Black is an essential part of your Mineral eye shadow palette. It's a great accent color when you want to be dramatic, and it's a fantastic all around eye liner.

Grey Eye Shadows I love greys. They go with everything, and you can use them as an eye liner or an accent or even the base for other eye shadows

Metallics and sheens.Metallics are all about shine, so you're going to use your mica as the primary colorant in these recipes. You can add some iron oxide to give your eye shadow some depth, but your goal here is shine shine shine!

White Eye shadows White eye shadows are great to wear as high lighter, specially under the brows. Used as a base on the eye lids, it will make “pop” the color of any eye shadows

Gold Eye Shadows Gold Make up adds glamor. Glamorous looks and gold make up go hand in hand. Its rich looking color that can take any make up look and add an element of sexiness to it. That's why this color in particular is a valuable that make up artists know they can depend on to deliver instant appeal. Gold make up add instant warmth!

Red/Pink Eye Shadows Pink...it's girly, it's feminine, it's awesome. I never thought about wearing pink until last summer, but now I love it. I always thought because I had brown/green eyes, I should wear green eye shadow. It's not a silly thought, but it is not necessarily true. Pink goes very well with green eyes -- it's a complement on the colour wheel, and I know I get comments when I wear it.

Brown Eye Shadows  There is a universal colour for all eye colours. It is the opposite colour of blue eyes – complementing colour The complementing colour for blue eyes is actually bronze. If you are tanned or have a darker skin tone then Bronze colours look very hot!
